The Lin Yao Ji Music Foundation (LYJMF) is pleased to announce the results of the 2016 Jessica Hung Scholarship (JHS) of the Lin Yao Ji Music Scholarship Program. The scholarship recipient of this year is Ms Choi Tung Cherry Yeung. The 19-year-old Hong Kong-born violinist is currently a sophomore studying with Ms. Ida Kavafian at The Juilliard School, and studies chamber music with Mr. Jerome Lowenthal and Ms. Lara Lev.

Yeung started learning the violin at the age of six, and was accepted to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) Junior Programme as a scholarship student in the same year, and became a full-time Diploma student at the HKAPA, where she studied with Mr. Ivan Chan.

As a soloist, Yeung has won numerous violin competitions, including the first prize at the first Hong Kong Youth String Competition, second prize winner at the 2013 Alice & Eleonore Schoenfeld International String Competition, and was a winner of the HKAPA Concerto Competition for two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015.

Yeung also has extensive orchestral experience, and has led the 2nd violin section of the Juilliard Orientation Orchestra, and has been the assistant concertmaster of the HKAPA Academy Symphony Orchestra, and the concertmaster of the HKAPA Junior Symphony Orchestra. Yeung has appeared and performed extensively at music festivals, including the Hotchkiss Summer Portals (2012), Heartland Chamber Music Festival (2013, 2014), New York String Orchestra Seminar (2013), Kent Blossom Music Festival (2014), Meadowmount School of Music (2015).

Yeung's impressive performing credentials include international venues such as the Shanghai Concert Hall, and the Carnegie Hall, and has collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as Steven Tenenbom, Ida Kavafian, the Miami String Quartet, Joseph Silverstein, Vadim Repin, Midori Goto, Jaime Laredo, Cho Liang Lin, Sylvia Rosenberg, Nicola Benedetti, Ida Kavafian, Pamela Frank, Robert Chen, Wei He.

The JHS is generously sponsored by Mrs. Jessica Hung in support of local and mainland music talents who seek to pursue postgraduate and undergraduate studies in music.  With Mrs Jessica Hung’s generous support, the Foundation is able to undertake its mission in assisting deserving students from Hong Kong and the mainland China to attend their choice conservatory for further studies with a view to launching a career in music. The JHS forms a part of the concurrent LYJMF Scholarship Programme alongside the New World Scholarship for Summer Studies in Music which provides full scholarships for awardees to participate in prestigious classical music festival academies such as Aspen Music Festival and School, Heifetz International Music Institute and Verbier Festival.

The first of the recipient of the JHS is Ms. Chener Yuan, a Guangzhou-born violinist and a private student of the late Professor Lin Yao Ji. She is now a third year student at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City under Mr Lin Li.

Each JHS scholarship will go towards defraying tuition and accommodation costs, taking into consideration applicants’ individual financial circumstances. More information about future applications for the JHS can be found on http://www.linyaoji.com/scholarship.php.
